You are probably going to get mixed opinions on this and it can get pretty heated. One thing almost everyone will agree upon is that once you get one you will never go back to regular gas. But it really depends on what YOU want and what you are going to use it for, also if you want new or used. I would recommend checking out the thread "how does the 7.3 compare to the 6.0, 5.9" it might help a little bit. Also get a copy of Diesel World and Diesel Power both are good mags. I personally own a 99 7.3 PSD, it has almost 150K miles on it and I have had NO problems at all. I hope this helps Good Luck in your decision.

A 2wd 6-speed definately can. Reg cab SRW is the best configuration for mileage. The bigger you go, the more fuel it will sip. The worst for mileage is CC/LB/DRW/4x4/Auto with 4.10's
Driving style also plays a BIG role in mileage.

From what I have heard stay away from 01 that the trans has not been rebuilt in,(diode lets go and cant shift out of gear), I have a 99.5 CC4X4 SB larger tires and some underhood goodies and my truck gets 18 on the hiway at 75MPH. Not bashing a 6.0 but the 7.3 is a much more proven engine.
