bodywork and welders

i have a 66 f100 and the idiot who owned it before me tried to cut holes in the door in front of the panel (that screws off to let you mess with the window regulator ) in order to put speakers in it but they never got it big enough and used pliers or something to rip the metal out. so i want to cover up this hole. I cant find a new door at a junk yard where i live because there are NO other pre 67 around here which i kind of like, it makes my truck unique. i want to weld a panel over the hole and smooth it out but im worried i might warp something.
any advice would be greatly appreciated...... D.G.Z

post where you live and you might be surprised how many Ford Truck Enthusiasts live near you and might be able to help. They might have some hoarded or know someone who does.

Just an idea, check out several trucking companys or construction companies where they just put their old trucks out back and let them sit. There may be a larger series truck that has doors that will interchange with yours. I hope the person who had your truck didn't use the same pliers to open up the dashboard for the different radio!

Welding sheetmetal is a seriously difficult proposition. I've welded up frames, roll cages, etc. and while I'm certainly no pro, at my level of experience I wouldn't even attempt it. The biggest problem will be the sheetmetal warping from the heat of welding.

Bill, the Skinny Painter who also likes to weld.

Thanks all, I guess ill have to find a new door then. Its probably better that way because the window tracks and window need replacement because the window is scratched from falling and scraping on the regulator because of the tracks. And 66ranger is psychic because the radio hole is torn out but i think they did it with a hack saw. but i have a plan for customizing the dash which will cover that up. d.g.z.
