OUT OF GAS? (nope, tank is full)...???

'90 302 EFI, has recently started stalling, usually when I step off the pedal to make a turn or park or whatever. Starts right back up like nothing ever happened. Tank is full. ???

Any hints?

What kind of tires are you running? With my 33's the RPMs always used to drop real low at full turn, and it stalled a couple of times, but always restarted. It still does it with 31's, but not as bad and has never stalled.

Thumbs up

Have you checked for trouble codes? If not check out www.fordfuelinjection.com it explains how to do it. You can do it with nothing more than a paper clip or you can pay $40 and get a code reader, which I would reccomend just because its more convinent. Oh and the check engine light doesn't have to be on for there to be codes.

..but it's an automatic, so it shouldn't stall (bunny-hop) when you turn or stop, should it? This just started recently after a year of no troubles.

I wasn't aware my '90 was code ready.

Every Bronco from about 85 through the end of production can have the codes pulled and prior to that its even possible just a bit more work and too little information to glean from the codes received. (Yes, believe it or not you CAN pull codes from EEC-III and Duraspark II computers). Its not till you get back into the original Duraspark and the old points-and-condenser ignition systems that there is no computer to get codes from.

But your 90 is EEC-IV and the site that masseysbronco mentioned details the procedures for obtaining them.

Check Engine?

Well now the light came on. If I shut down and restart it goes away. I haven't yet got the code reader ($41 at Lordco) but have checked the obvious (PCV, Air Filter, plugs, oil level, etc).

Can this be a serious thing? It runs great other than infrequent hiccups as mentioned.

Have you changed your fuel filters recently? One is a paper cartridge under the drivers seat attached to the frame and the other is just in front of it and is a metal one piece.

You can pull/check codes with a Haynes manual and a paperclip. Thats no joke.

Probably the fuel filter(s), although the oil pressure gauge has now started fluttering (yes the oil is topped up, and I changed the filter not too long ago).

I have a Haynes manual, I will read it a little more.

Thanks for the replies guys.
