1996 E-350 tripometer and odometer prob.

My 1996 coachmen motorhome (E-350 chassis) is having and issue with resetting my tripometer to 0 and reverting the odometer mileage to the last mileage when started I restart the vehicle.

Can anyone help me on this?

Is it only the odometer that is giving trouble or is the speedometer also acting up? If the odometer is only acting up you may have a bad PSOM control module which, in my 95, is directly straight up from the steering column behind the dash way up high. If the speedometer is working than the rear axle speed sensor must be OK.

A "PSOM" is the instrument cluster/speedometer assembly. A non working odometer is usually caused by a failed PSOM if the speedometer is working.

The speedometer always works. Also, the odometer always works. Its just that when I turn the motorhome off, and then turn it on again, sometimes the tripometer has reset itself and the odometer resets itself to ehere it last was.

So, lets say I start the motorhome and it reads 13,500 on the odometer. I drive 15 miles and it then reads 13515. I stop the motorhome, get gas, and key up to start it and the mileage will read 13,500.

I think it still has to be the PSOM since it's the brain behind the whole thing. When you push the peg does it re-zero itself OK? Maybe there is some kind of glitch in that PSOM.

This is correct. The PSOM saves mileage to permanent memory in blocks. I was told at one time by a Ford engineer that they save in 10mile blocks. If yours is not saving it has to be a problem in the PSOM.

Thanks for the help. I think the problem is always on short drives. I'll have to look into it.
