new park light bulbs don't fit old housing

Well, I got a problem a lot of you have probably run into. In converting my 53 f100 to two filiment bulbs for front turn signals I find that the longer bulb keeps the lens from seating. What to do? does somone make a shorter bulb? It will take a bit of cutting and welding to modify the ones in place. Thanks for all the great info I have been getting.

I ran into this same issue on my '52, with Dennis Carpenter's "dual filament" replacement assemblies. The problem on mine was that the Chinese shoved the socket too deep into the housing. I had to break the tiny little spot weld and shove it back into the housing about 1/4". After all that, the repro assemblies fit so poorly on the lower valance that I ended up pressing the new sockets into the old OEM baseplates.

If you are working with stock assemblies, I don't think you can do this, because the dual-filament bulbs have staggered pins on their bases. Unless you can cut new ones, it just won't go.

I haven't gotten that far along. YET. I think that Albuq is right, break the spot weld.

Just press the old sockets out in your vice and press in a pair of new ones to the depth you need. That's what I did on my 48. Another option is to use those halogen replacements for 1157 bulbs....they are shorter.

LED's weren't available when I did mine, I bet they are shorter too.

This is what I did. Piece of cake and a perfect fit.

On my 49 I purchased some universal dual element lamp sockets at the local parts store and adapted them to my housings. I did have to press the original sockets out first.
