65 Front end alignment

65 Front end alignment
Ok so after the install of my new power disc brakes I performed my own kind of home made front end alignment, here is what I did.
I took two 5' lengths of 1/2" conduit and bungied them to the front rims with a small piece of wood to keep the conduit from hitting the tire (thought the rubber would give me false readings). I put a mark 13" from the rear of the conduit and centered this mark on the axle. I took the measurements from the truck prior to the start of the project and found a 1.25 inch differance between the front and back of the conduit. After I installed the new disc brake system I set the toe at the same 1.25 differance. The truck drove pretty good down the freeway to the alignment shop I found that would still align a twin I beam.
When I picked up the truck the guy that did the alignment said that the toe was out very little and said I did a pretty good job for a quick alignment. He also adjusted the camber. He has been aligning I beams for 35+ years.
This truck drives so nice down the freeway now and brakes like a champ. I had it up to 85 mph and everything was smooth as silk.
Just thought I would share a quick tip for a Temporary alignment.
I would alsways highly reccomend a front end alignment.
