Engine swap

I have a '97 F150 with (you guessed it) a 4.2 v-6 that is locked up. Fortunately this is a 5-spd truck. I've seen that some recommendations are to sub a 3.8 in its place. What about the Ranger/Explorer 4.0? What differences are there that would make this a pain to swap?
