well just bought a 99 f150 4x4 4.6 with 161,000 miles on it. The service light came on and I had the code read. It was 0401. The mechanic said I needed a dpfe replaced. After reading this forum I decided to pull vacuum on the egr valve at idle. No change in the motor. I will pull the throttle body and clean the egr passage. I pulled the egr off and it works. the hole was some what clogged. I also noticed that both hoses going to the dpfe were brittle and cracked. Can I use regular vacuum hose for this?
thanks Steve . I new that from reading this forum. I just finished cleaning them and tested the egr with vacuum. The motor stalled. I temporaraly put regular vacuum hoses on my dpfe. where can i get the high temperature hoses I need to use? I would like to wrap this job up today.
As far as I know you can only get the hoses at the dealer and they are pretty pricey.
If you have time to check around you might want to try a heavy truck shop and see if they have silicone hose in the right sizes.
