Need a 400 - in memphis area

Well, the powerplant in my 82 F-250 gave up on me Friday, and I am looking for one I can drop in there to keep me going until I can do a proper rebuild on the one I've got since I don't have much spare time lately, a rebuild is gonna take awhile.

Anyone know of one here in the Memphis area that I can grab fairly cheap, but that runs decent?

It can be out of any year truck up to an 82. The 400's didn't change much over the years. I got to have the 400 or a 351M so that my clutch housing will bolt up. I don't want to do a conversion since I'm going to build the current 400 and put back in.

A&B and a few other yards may have one - I've had good luck with them so far.

AA sucks, they won't even let you go out in their yard to look by yourself, and they are just plain HIGH.

A1 is slap out of business: God bless Gary Brewer, he will be missed for a long time to come.

Billy Lawrence probably has one somewhere around his place, the trick is finding him to talk at... (We're talking about ACRES of cars and trucks in the woods)

-this is just what I know of around the Munford Atoka area-

And then there is ol' Hambone on Glenn Springs road. He's another that inherited a scrapyard and stuff is all out there in the back... Matter of fact Hambone has an old Sunbeam with a sapling tree growing up through the engine bay that I wanted.

I'll give them a try and see what they have.

I guess A&R are the ones that won't let us go out in the lot and look around. They are the ones on 51 straight across from the DIRECT TV place.

They think they are hot, but I just won't go there! I've also heard they're priced high, so they can kiss my fuzzy behind...

Meet up with me at Shake Rag some saturday, and maybe we can hunt up Billy Lawrence or Hambone.

I have a 77 LTD with original 400 and about 75,000 miles on it. It runs good. I bought it to fix up and drive but I have no time. It has been rusting out in my yard for the last year. I have about $700 into the whole car. If I could get my money back out of it I would not mind selling it. If not the engine will be going into one of my trucks this spring.
