2.3 turbo w/ fuel injection

I took a '87 thunderbird engine out of a t-boned car and put it in a '79 ford courier. I got it all in and now it runs, but extremely rich. So rich it shoots fire out the tail pipe. Is there anyway of adjustment or what could it be?

Hi Jay and Welcome to FTE! Please take a moment to check out the Guidelines as they contain important info you'll need when posting on the site:

I'm not sure starting a poll for your first post is the best way to get an answer, but what the heck...

What did you use for wiring, the original T-bird harness or an aftermarket harness? Is it set up so that you can use a diagnostic scanner on it to pull the codes?

My first thought is the fuel pressure regulator. You should check the fuel pressure at the Schraeder valve on the fuel rail, you want to see it in the 35-40 PSI range. If the regulator is bad and it's letting too much fuel through, then that could be the source of your problem. For that matter, make sure you have the vacuum hose to the regulator connected to a vacuum source on the manifold, and if so, pull that hose off and check to see if there's any fuel present in the hose. If there is, then that's a sign of a bad diaghragm in the regulator and it's drawing raw fuel dorectly into the manifold.

Sounds a cool project once the bugs are worked out. Post some pics in your gallery along with that unusual F100 you have in there...

well when I dropped it in I got on-line and found a simplified wiring diagram for the 2.3. http://www.blindchickenracing.com/Ho...birdwiring.jpg (so I stripped off everthing I didn't need) Well, the fuel pressure was the first thing I checked and it's good @ 40PSI.
Does anyone know what my timing should be set at?
I'm know nothing when it comes to these little 4 bangers. Normally if it doesn't have 8 plugs I don't touch it, but this one sounded fun.

I think stock timing is 10 degrees before.
