'96 E150 - 5.8 - Changing Timing chain/Watr Pump/Plug Wires/Radiator
'96 - E150 - 5.8L - 110,000 miles - purchased it with 108,000 miles (don't know the history)
My radiator is bad an am replacing it with a Modine from NAPA. Since I am opening up the cooling system, I decided it would be a good idea to change the water pump and hoses at the same time. Someone suggested that I change the timing chain/gears if I am changing the water pump since they are right there.
So here is what I am changing and got all the parts from NAPA:
-Radiator
-3 cooling hoses
-Thermostat
-Waterpump
-Timing Chain / Gears
My cost is about $300 for all of this.
I am wondering since I will have all the front of the VAN apart if I should replace the wires/plug/dist cap/rotor at the same time. I have read that getting to the front two plugs on the right is a real bear. Will it be easier to get to them with all this stuff out of the way?
The van is running smooth but at this milage and without knowing the history, it might make since to change these out too. The cost is about $200 for motorcraft parts. I was a little shocked. I think I will only do this if it makes getting to the plugs easier otherwise, I think I will wait and save up another $200 for these parts.
What do you think?
Anything else that I should replace while I am in there?
Any tips?
