4.6L P0401 and stalling.
I have a 97 F-150 4.6L V8 w/ 178K Miles. Over past several months check engine light would come on for a day, then go away for a week or so. Last week started noticing transmission problems. Hard, poorly timed shifts and the tranny would almost kill the motor when you come to a stop. I thought Torque Converter/Tranny problem, so off to the Tranny shop.
They pulled a P0401 Insufficient EGR Flow. I found the ports in the Throttle Body Spacer to be almost completely plugged. (Thanks to this forum). Cleaned the ports and the rest of the EGR System. Codes went away and transmission started shifting normally. (Who would have thought the EGR would cause the transmission problem?)
Had I not found Ford-Trucks.com, I would have replaced a bunch of parts before the real problem was found. Keep up the good work!
