Are They Twins?

Near as I have been able to tell, so far, a 1997 and a 1999 7.3 liter turbo power stroke are essentially the same engine..........is this true? For purposes of aftermarket power upgrades the vendors say they are not the same but, I can't find any good evidence that supports this........your thoughts?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Yes they are the same engine but when the 99 superduty came out there where a lot of updated parts.
larger injectors, intercooler, wastegated turbo, better hpop and electric fuel pump are just a few of the parts.

Thanks for the feedback! I have asked a couple of these Chip & Programmer manufactures to explain why they offer non interchangeable products for these year and model engines but, haven't heard anything intelligent from them yet. Guess I'll just keep asking.

Most programmers will work on 94-03 7.3s (edge and superchips) but when you order a chip it is a pcm specific tune (Dp tuner, Tony Wildman).

Well, there in lies the rub.....Edge says that there Juice and Evolution programmers will work on the 1999 but only the Evolution will work on the 1997. I don't have anything against the Evolution product except that I can't shift programs on the fly like you can with their Juice programmer nor do you get the digital gauges in the Evolution. There are a couple of compelling advantages to the Juice product over the Evolution if the darn thing will work on the 1997 engine.

I see what you are talking about now. They just didnt want to invest more time and money to load 94-97 pcm programs on those modules. If you are wanting a shift on the fly chip then give DP tuning or Tony Wildman a call. Both will give you awsome tunes for your truck. I dont really now about the digital gauges. Most of them only work with their companies module.

A late arriving dispatch from EDGE states: The 1997 and older 7.3s have a HPOP that won't deliver enough pressure to drive the fuel injectors properly for their Juice/Attitude tuner.

Who would have thought?

I have to call BS....
Yes 97 and earlier trucks have a weaker hpop, but our injectors are only 100cc compared to the superdutys 130cc. The evolution programmer will give the 99-03 7.3 100hp, the juice only 75 hp. So the evolution gives you less pressure and more hp? They dont want to have to include the 94-97 psd because there is not that big of a demand for it. They dont want to waste money on r&d on something that wont give them a profitable return.
