Man, I done opened a whole can of worms

It's cool to read everyone's opinions and experiences though. I do like the looks of those Champion truck plugs. They've got to be the best looking plug on the market IMO. Not just the same old black and white spark plug.

Nobody has used the truck plugs? That seems surprising. I would've tried them had they been in stock, just for kicks since I've never used Champs in anything with more than 1 cylinder. The NGK V-powers are still doing good so far.

Here's what Champion says about thier truck plugs
"Truck Plugs are engineered specifically for pickups, SUV's and vans. A massive copper core center electrode has over 120% of the spark area of conventional plugs lending toward a longer life in heavy duty performance needs. The copper core ground electrode dissipates heat faster than a conventional plug. A black glazed zirconia enhanced ceramic insulator offers 40% more strength for durability under rough driving conditions"

It is a sexy spark plug at least

LOL

Looks like p/n 4018 is for the FE, about $2.90 per. No idea what heat range that is.

I have found Champs will split the porcelain around the center elecrtrode if any "light" detonition has been subjected to the plug, also if you have lumbered around town for a week then jumped on it hard on the on ramp they can short out at the center electrode porcelians unless you ease into the power and burn off the carbon slowly vs other brands. This is with the correct fuel / air ratio and heat range.
Seems Champs have a narrower operating heat zone, lumbering around town or 30 seconds at 5,200 in the 125+ mph zone. It seems I can exceed the heat zone range vs other brands but I won't change over. Like I posted before I pressure spark test them in the Champion Plug Tester before installing and haven't had a problem with the ones that passed, a a few have failed even when new.
At 40+ years still a Champ user but I understand how to weed out the bad and drive with them with great results. Stuck on Champs, JMO's.

If any of you have a 5.4 l 3-v engine,be careful. There is a problem with plug failure when removing the plug(s).

Didn't they have some problems with some 4.6's blowing spark plugs out of the motor too?

Those modulars are a pain to change plugs. I had a 97 with a 4.6 and it was rediculous. Took me like 3 hours.

For years everyone would use champion plugs in a ford an of course AC delco in a general motors car. The interesting thing is AC stands for Albert Champion, the maker.

Funny isn't it Chevrolet brothers lost their car and name to the scoundrels at Gm and they latched onto AC for what he could gain them. One more observation of the previous post someone mentioned rolled threads on the shell of a plug, I believe that
all the makers have gone to that.

Champions are only for lawn mowers and Chrysler products. AC is for GM, Motorcraft or Autolite for Ford and NGK for imports. My .02 cents. -Ed

i have auto light in my wifes jeep liberty and it runs better then the factory nipons.

i personally have found most american brand cars run very well with autolight even the gm engines in my small boat. for my fords motorcraft or autolight only.

77460f150 funny thing even my lawn mowers run good on autolight. what do have the best universal plug made to run in our fords ? seems that way to me as i have been useing them this way since 1964 when ford still owned the autolight brand name

I recently changed the plugs on my moms caravan. Took champion plugs out after 180,000 miles. Yes those were the original plugs and even after 180,000 miles some of them were still in okay condition.

I've never had good luck with Champion. They foul out very easily. In motors that burn a little oil, I've seen Autolite last for years where the Champion would foul out in a minute. Autolite is now made by Honeywell and the Motorcarft brand is the same stuff. Go for the Double Platinum version if you want their best.

Replies on Champion's make 'em sound like they're one step up from dog waste, if that bad wouldn't they of gone out of business 30 years ago?

30 or maybe 40 years ago they were hailed at the track as having the best spark. For 1/4 mile that's fine, but as far as I'm concerned they were never a great everyday plug. When a bad mixture hit them they foul. Meanwhile Autolite would advertise that they could burn in oil and they did. Now years later I'm sure their new plugs have changed, but I haven't tried them.
