1999-2003 7.3 powerstroke transmission compatability

Hi I'm new to the site and I'm starting my 7.3 powersroke swap into my dodge half ton and I really want to go with a manual transmission but they are heavily priced but I found one cheap and it's for a 94 idi and it's a zf5 I was wondering if anyone knows if this would pair with the 7.3 powerstroke

Welcome to the forum!

Gotta admit I giggled at your “poll” contents. Somehow when starting the thread you picked a poll instead of just a new thread. But no worries, it doesn’t make a difference.

I can’t help with your question but maybe @SkySkiJason can. He has been summoned with the magical tag.

Good luck with your build!

So the trans from the '94 is an E4OD whereas the Powerstroke uses the 4R100. The PCm in the Powerstroke uses the PCM to "talk" to the trans. I don't see the Powerstroke PCM have a conversation with the E4OD.

But, @SkySkiJason or @Mark Kovalsky will correct me.

It looks like he's going with a manual, Dan.

New members can’t send PMs until some criteria is met. 10 posts and 1 week of membership? Anyhow, you don’t need to message him. I tagged him in the earlier post. He will get a notification and be along shortly. He’s probably out working on someone’s 7.3 right now.

Thanks I'm 15 and really on a time crunch to get it done before my 16th birthday when I get my license and I've done all of the work myself and usually just taught my self but I'm a little lost and it's hard to find info about it

The idi and 7.3 powerstroke have the same bell housing bolt pattern as far as I know. I believe it should work fine, you will likely need to use the idi flywheel. Not sure on how it will clear the cabs trans tunnel or what may need to be done for drive shaft lengths

OK, now it's starting to come back to me...out of the cobwebs...I'm thinking that the 7.3's have the same bolt pattern across the board but if you want to cross your stuff from the 7.3 to a gasser, it's a no-go?
