Tick-Tick-Tick

Hey guys, I have a '98 F150 with about 140k miles on it, it's a v8 5.4. It runs good and looks great, but what i have noticed/heard is a ticking noise. It seems to be coming from somewhere in the engine. Not to sure. It's a constant ticking, never goes away and as my rpm's increase the ticking becomes faster. Not sure if it's something i should worry about. i dont notice any loss of power or hesitation. the idle is normal, i guess for that year truck and the number of miles on it. any advice or info would be great. thanks.

Don't start it until you check the spark plug torque.Do it before it's to late could be a plug launch in progress. They will hammer the threads out if lose.

I aggree. I had the same problem for AWHILE. Truck ran fine, just had an incessent Tick Tick Tick. It was louder (for me) down by front passenger tire than anywhere else. People suggested exchaust, lash adjusters. Ended up being the #4 just slightly loose. Removed, cleaned, tightened back down....no more Tick Tick Tick.

If it's a spark plug, you could always get a stethoscope to see which one it is. Unless you just feel like changing all of your plugs.
