Electrical problem.

My wife was jumping the solenoid on the fender and touched the screwdriver to metal. Well after doing so the our van wouldn't start. I replaced the solenoid, still wouldn't start. Checked and replaced with new battery, won't start. Checked all the fuses under the dash and hood. Nothing works, power door locks, radio, etc..., nothing! But if I use a screwdriver to jump the solenoid the van starts and everything works.

Possibly a bad new solenoid? But would this cause nothing electrical to work without the vehicle running? What else could have blown?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Sounds like she blew a fusable link coming off of the battery.
