Hood Locks

Hi, I just picked up a '66 and am using as a daily driver. One issue I have is that I can't lock the hood(I drive downtown sometimes). Anyone know of good aftermarket or even a donor year in which I can get a hood lock/latch mechanism w/ a release in the Cab or even lock in the front? All I've found is the ones where you have to drill holes in the hood, which I don't want to use. I'm starting to do some engine work and don't want anything walkin' off.....
Thanks!

Hood Locks

Mr Gasket used to make a universal under hood lock that used a choke style cable. It came with the brackets and everything to mount it. I used a pair to secure a tilt front end I had on a ch*vy truck. worked real well at the time I ordered it through supershops. You might check with a parts house that sells mr gasket stuff and ask to look at there catalog. Hope this helps

Hood Locks

Just a suggestion, but I am going to use a braided, stailess steel plastic covered wire cable from a boat store. Have them put the thimbles on each end for you and bolt the top one to the hood latch or somewhere on the hood itself. I am going to put an eye bolt with as strange a looking nut as I can find in the core support and use a small brass lock to secure the cable to it. Make the cable just long enough so you can raise the hood enough to unlock the lock and not long enough so someone could get inside the engine compartment. It really doesn't have to be a very heavy cable. These cables can be cut, but it takes a really big chain cutter to do it. A hack saw won't do the job. If someone wants your truck enough to carry around one of those, not much you are going to do about that.

Hood Locks

Thanks for the tips. I'm fighting some new window leaks now...But I'll get back on the hood problem and let you know what I do.
Thanks Again,
Jon.
