Tonneau Cover

I was looking into getting a Tonneau cover for my 99 F-150 and was wondering if anyone who has one had seen any increase in gas mileage or if there was no change. If i am not going to gain anything by getting one i probably wont' waste the money.

Tonneau covers are great, and they will increase gas milage. BUT!!! dont buy a undercover tonneau cover, I have one on my 03 supercrew, and the front of it is cracking at the mounting point on both sides, called the company, sent pics, and they will not stand behind there product at all!!! 1500.00$ later cover is two years old and they said its from abuse? Not sure how as this cover has never been off, and taken care of.

BUY A LOW RIDER OR LUND< ECT, DONT BUY A UNDER COVER.

If you're just buying for the gas savings then you might want to calculate how long it will take you to "make" back your investment.

It could take 3-5 plus years for the savings in gas to offset the cost of a cover. Will you still have the truck in 3-5 years?

You could attach a sheet of plywood to the top of the bed to test what type of savings you might experience and figure out how long it will take to cover the cost of the tonneau.

I used to have a cab high canopy. I sold it and got a roll-in lock tonneau. I noticed an inprovment in mileage (2-3 mpg). I have read that a canopy accually will decrease your mileage due to the drag behind the truck. I cannot verify this because I got the cannopy right after I got the truck. I cannot put large items in my box and be covered as with the canopy, but I realy like the better visability out the back, especially in the winter when its dark to and from work. As with most things you buy to improve mileage, you likely never make back the cost.

A Tonneau cover will help you save gas mileage. But it is not going to be alot. If you are going to buy a tonneau cover don't buy it to save gas mileage but to keep the elements of out your truck bed and to keep it secure. I would suggest getting an Access LiteRider Cover. They are watertight, installation is only a 20 minute install and you don't have to drill to install. And the Access Literider is backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty. Go to the link below to take a better look at the Access LiteRider Roll-up cover. Or give me a call at 877-216-5446 and ask for ext. 107 if you have any other questions or concerns.

P.S. Dont for get to use my discount code when ordering it will save you an additional 5% on your total order.

I have one of those that folds up by and is easily removed by unhooking four locking clamps.
It improved my mileage by 1 or mpg and the cost was great. It was gift from my son and it was given to him originally.

I'm getting the idea that I will not see a significant increase in fuel milage if i put a cover on. I'm thinking that it would probably be a waste of money for me.

I put one on my 04 F-150 Hertiage as soon as I could get one on it, it helped mine by about two miles per gallon, I have to take it off to haul stuff time to time & I really can tell the difference in fuel mileage. I can haul the same amount of weight under the cover & still get over 17 mpg's but with out the cover I loose about two miles per gallon.
