Question DIY exhaust brake?

I´m planning to do the work and installing the DIY exhaust brake and I have some questions:
1.- Anybody has installed one like that and how it works?
2.- Do you need an extra device like "SmartLock" to lock the torque converter or it is not necessary, and with the form of wiring the torque converter stays locked when needed?
The original updated article says that the valve is most valuable to braking when engine speed is between 250 and 3000 RPM an it will lose engine braking abilities when engine speed drops below 2000 RPM and the vehicles with automatic transmissiions will have good braking effect, while the torque converter stays locked, but will lose braking effect when the torque converter
unlocks.
I know that In stock form, the torque converter is unlocked going downhill (most situations). I am confussed about that, what are your impressions?, my truck is 96 F250 PSD, AUTOMATIC.

thanks for your help and inputs.

Jose.

Thumbs up

I love FTE, thanks 1997 and Cuda, very good information and very cheep, you can save a lot of money (about at least 1,300 bucks), dont you?

BUT any one has installed one and how it works comparatively with a real exhaust brake?

And there are a connection between PCM and the Torque converter lock up with diodes and goes to the switch (wire 3), what is that for,? or how it works?, or any way of that I have to put de Switch apart to lockup the TC and that connection too?
Im still confussed about that

sorry to hi jack this thread, but quick question...

are the exhaust brakes that are modified from the EBPV good throughout the entire RPM range? or do you have to be pushing some revs for it to be effective? i heard from someone that it wouldnt work unless you were pushing near 3000RPM's

They work better between 2500-3000 rpms. But I have left it turned on when exiting the freeway and it will almost bring my truck and trailer to a stop.
