3.55 to 3.08, what speedo gear?
'97 XCab six cylinder, 5 spd, 219,000 miles. After singing to me for two years, my rear end started ticking. I found a $250 rear end at a junk yard with a 3.08 in it and put it in last night. Unexpected problem, E-brake cables are wrong. Guess I'll have to pull the old ones and change them out. Expected problem, need new speedo gear.
Took it on the road and odometer read 8.45 miles for 10 mile markers. Just to verify the ratio was right on the tag.
Before I crawl under this evening, does anyone know offhand how many teeth to buy on the new speedo gear?
Thanks,
Mark

Personally I like to follow someone with a good speedometer so I can use MPH because I feel it's more accurate, but it works the same way. correct MPH/indicated MPH = current number of teeth / # of teeth needed.
So anyway 10 miles / 8.45 odometer = 1.1834. That boils down to needed # of teeth = current # of teeth / 1.1834. Round to the nearest number. If you've gotten more than one speeding ticket round up, forget that you rounded up, and you probably won't get another ticket.
