How are the 2006 models?

My sister may be in the market for a new Explorer. ANY information... good, bad, or otherwise that you can throw my way would be appreciated. Thanks

Rich -

Supposedly, the front door handles and pulls are pretty weird on the '06; I believe Ford corrected them for '07.

Thanks for the heads up. Any known 'problems' with this model year? Only thing I know about Explorers are based off the first generation and their issues. Thanks

'06 was the 1st year for the 3v 4.6L/6-speed tranny combo; I don't remember seeing any posts here about problems with this combo. If your sister is considering the V-8, ask the dealer's service manager about any issues; hopefully he'll be straight with you if there are. The V-6/5-speed tranny combo has been pretty much trouble-free in the '06, after the timing belt/tranny fluid fiascos in the earlier models.

Thanks Steve. She is looking at a left over Eddie Bauer with the V6/5 combo.

I have no problems with my '06 V6. It has the 3.55 axle and doesn't have a lot of pep, but is adequate for me. If she can live with the interior (highly reflective stuff on the dash panel, no dash storage, door handle location) she should be happy. It is easily the quietest truck I've ever been in and rides great.

Mine accelerates while braking and dealer assures me that it is a normal condition. 3 more years and counting...
