New head bolts

New head bolts

My new head bolts came with hardened washers should i use them? The original head bolts had no washers.thanks

YES, absolutely..........Those flat ground hardened washers are what make those bolts work. Also, torque and loosen a couple of times to seat, (marry) the surfaces together. Also use LUBE, on the bolt/washer/head surfaces, and also on the threads and follow the torque specs. The torque is LESS with the special lube because there is less friction. The multiple torquing also helps establish a bolt stretch, which is what you are doing when you torque it, you're stretching it, the torque specs limit the stretch and keep the tensile strenght in the range the bolt was made for. Again, read and follow the instructions that came with your bolts, they are for real..........aMP
