Guessing you've never shopped from Snap-On? That's not even a top of the line model from them. Have you seen the size of a pro tool box? I dought his F-150 can even carry it with his tools in it. I'm not sure if my F-250 could!

It came loaded? If it did, I guess I can see that. With enough tools in it, I could justify that price. I thought he was speaking only of the tool box.

Me? Shop Snap-on? I'm the guy with the $650 dollar truck folks. Craftsman is top of the line for me. If I can break it, they'll replace it. I'm 33 and have broken exactly two Craftsman hand tools. My idiot father in law (former) managed to break my Craftsman cheater bar, but he used a tractor to do it.

I'll grant you that Snap on can be worth the money in certain applications and certainly have tools that no one else has, but for run of the mill shop tools, I can't see spending that kind of cash. Too cheap for my own good? Possibly, but the used car I bought cheap in 1998 is still running.

OK hang on---it was empty! It is the third box I've had in 31 years of doing this. Dont know if you are familiar with snap-on, but its a "Metal Haven" model. I have actually had customers that I dont know tell me "My god, you must be serious about what you do!". For the homeowner, yes it would be insane for them to spend that for a toolbox. In your daily work, do you show pride in your skills? I want people to look at that box and say, "the owner of this thing lives, breathes, sleeps, and drinks this job" If you have cabinets put into your house, how much does it cost? Now make them out of metal! Yes, Craftsman has good tools. When your job is all about time, the Craftsman truck never comes around when you desperately need a tool to do the job. Besides, it matches my personality.

Over 15 years ago I gave $500 for a USED snap on box, and it isn't all that big... I would venture to guess the price tag on the tools IN the box are well over double the price of that box. I think I have at least the 11,000 wrapped up in my tools as well, and my drawers are stuffed, as well as a few other boxes in the group. When you have that many tools, and you need to know where they are, right now, it takes a monster box to house them. Not to mention, it saves some trouble when you have to change stalls because the other is taken up with a vehicle waiting for parts or such.I have a craftman box, and it can't take the same abuse the Snap Ons are, had one drawer already fall out of the Craftsman. If you take care of them (maybe even if you don't...) the Snap Ons will last longer.

As Todd and vloney mentioned, I'm obviously not very familiar with Snap-On. I'll concede that. As for the Snap-On truck getting to the job site quicker/more reliably than the Craftsman truck, I'll take your word for it. I cannot remember exactly what it was, but I do remember buying something out of a Snap-on truck because he was in the driveway at the moment I needed it. (And I remember being blown away by the cost...)

I took this thread . My bad. Congrats on paying off the loan.

Maybe if I'm nice I can check out this tool box at the end of the month?

Any time! Its one of the only things I like to show off. The other is my new house (I bought one of those 2 story storage sheds and converted it into a house) I was telling everybody I'll probably be buried in a big black Snap-On toolbox, and pointing to his, my son piped up and said "nope, you'll be buried in a little RED snap-on toolbox!). I should have killed him when he was still in diapers!

How about a pic. Sounds like a real nice tool box. I'm sure you probably could always use more space and tools in your line of work.

I would love to see your tools!! My buddy up here that owns his own shop has a huge tool box from Snap-On as well. I love to work on my truck at his place because I can always find the tool I need. They are so well organized!

Although, he doesn't let me drill holes anymore. Something about almost killing us both. ROFLMAO!! Ok, so I almost blew up a battery because I let the drill hit the positive terminal while drilling a hole. It startled me so bad from the initail spark that i was flailing about and kept hitting the battery terminal. Ruined a titanium drill bit and burnt the side of his drill pretty bad.

Funny thing is, now I know if it's something I don't want to do myself, I can get him to do it by simply screwing up. Hahahahahaha

Friend of mine used to work on semis all the time, but he quit that, at least went to a job he didn't have to supply his own. Well, he had to move the box... took the roll back to load it and haul it...I can barely see into the top level of it, and I aint short!!!

Congrats on paying off your tool box. I too would like to see a pic of it. My brother in law owns an independent repair shop here in SOCAL and swears by the Snap On Name.

If I can't fix it with a hammer or flathead then I probably need to take it in because those are the tools I am qualified to use.
