ArmorAll Leaves Dash Discolored

Has anyone else ever had this happen? I was cleaning my truck this weekend and the dash was dusty so i wiped it with some of those pre-treated Armor All cloths that come in a plastic can. Now the dash is all splotchy like i didn't coat it good enough. I went back and did it again, but it still looks this way. Are you not supposed to use any type of treatment on these dashes?

Thanks,
Robbie

I used 303 protectant on my dash for 2 reasons. One, I wasn't sure about the "stability" of the plastic and paint ford used on the dash. Two, 303 leaves a much less glossy finish on the dash. That way it doesn't blind you when the Sun hits it. Even so, to get an even finish I had to apply it at least 3 times to get an even finish. So as long as the Armor All isn't attacking the plastic in the dash, I would say to hit it a few more times to get a more uniform finish.

Guys...Amor All is a grease based interrior dressing....with a years time of sun exposure the grease will actually dissovle the paint. The paint that Ford uses in the interior has a clear coat of protectant on it. Or at least thats what a person I talked to at the dealer. Anyways... I've been detailing for about 5 years and what I've found out is that water based interrior dressing is the best...wont fade or grease your dash...while still delivering the clean natural factory look. I can recommend Meguiars Professional Vynl and Rubber Conditioner if not you could use the 303 that ford9c is talking about...either way check out properautocare.com. They have products as well as instructions on how to use them. Ive been a religious customer for 3 years.

Nosedive,
The Meguiars product I mentioned works with a couple swipes..best to use a microfiber towl for sure to get an even coat over all the surfaces...another thing is that this product wont dim your clear plastics or the chrome bezels(however you spell it).

Lilmustangboy...
Its full name is Aerospace 303 i think its German if I'm not mistaken

I also use just a damp cloth, once a year I will use the tannery leather conditioner to help replenish oils lost in the dash. I used armor all long time ago and stopped turned all rubber green.

Keith Ruge You can get a cleaner for plastic at the honda motorcycle shop that comes in an aerosol can. It is a Honda brand that gets the wax off of plastic, it is also great for getting off stuborn bug stains.

You could do that or use a quik detailer either Mothers Showtime Instant Detailer or Meguairs Quik Detailer with microfiber....you can use this combo to take off the wax on both surfaces so that you can get an even wax on all your surfaces!!

I've been using armourall for years on all types of interiors and had good results, a little to glossy sometimes, but no problems with it. Have a '05 F150 I have been using it on and it looks good.

I have rubbed off the trim paint by using rubbing alcohol (to "clean" the surface before attaching the Edge pod onto the trim). So now, after trial and error, Armour All is the only stuff that will hide the imperfection.

Instead of all these cleaners, what I used to do when I was in the detailing business was use Stoner glass cleaner on the dash and use a microfiber towel to clean the surface. It works!!!

I use the Armor-All Spray in my 05' F150 without any problems. I tried the Armor-All wipes and it seems there isn't enough protectant on it. Also, never spray directly onto the dash. Spray enough on a cloth (or towel) wipe and you should get a consistant coating.

very true. Its like that with most applications on cars. Because whatever you get on the cloth or applicator, you wont get it in the nooks and crannys. But when you spray directly onto the surface, the chances of getting cleaners in those cracks are high. And if the content is thick and stubborn, it is just extra work to get it out
