steering column

Hello,
Can anyone tell me where I might find a steering column for my '64 f100? Or will another year fit this. I wanted to go with power steering but if I can't adapt anything then I'll leave it. A friend of mine thought that a early 1970's column and pump might work, does anyone know if this will? Thank You. Kevin

Kevin, Any ps column shaft through 79 will work in your column. It is the shaft that has to be short. Having said that, the rub comes with the st. dr. shifting mech just below the firewall. If you were to convert to an auto tranny at the same time, you could eliminate a lot of problems.

Thanks bro, I need to slow up on my drinking while posting, huh??

He sure could help with a lot of problems by finding a newer model chassis, and building his 64 back on it instead of the current one.

Thankyou for the information.I'll start looking for one now. I held up looking until I talked to the pro's here at FTE. I just hope that by restoring this truck I can get some of the knowledge that you folks here have.
Thank's again,
Kevin

Keven you will have some minor differences in the 65-72 chassis, but you might go as high as a 79. The radiator support should bolt up on the chassis to 79. I want someday to build a 66 on a mid to late 70s chassis. I almost did it on a 76 but chickened out, mainly because I didn't have a welder or anyone close by to help me scratch my head. In 73 the chassis was changed behind the cab, cab forward it is the same. You can directly bolt a 79 I-beam set under a 65, as well as the power steering gear, column etc. BUT 64 is pre twin I-beam and a dinosours age back, even though the sheet metal is very simular.

Think it over, decide on what you want to do, post your questions and we'll try to help you. Where are you located?
