The lower hose goes to an intake manifold vacuum source, I'm pretty sure. The upper pcv hose which is cracked, goes to what I think is called orifice valve to regulate the amount of vacuum seen by the upper port on the pcv valve. Guess the question I should have asked is why two hoses on the pcv valv?
The upper connection on the PCV valve goes to the solenoid valve which connects to the Charcoal Canister at the other end.
However, on some Aerostars, depending on the model year, the top one is capped off and the solenoid valve is connected directly to the vacuum manifold on the rear of the engine. Either way works fine.
Hey rough running 3.0...found a hose off and tell it has been plugged onto somethin but cant find where?it comes from pcv and ends under air filter housing.cant see anything to connect it on in or around air filter? Please help, any idea where it connects?I see the vac diagram posted but cant make since of it.
I appreciate it i actually found it during the time you posted.
sprayed sensor cleaner on maf an in throttle boby and ccrv and wiped out...
replaced hose from ccrv to the canister you mentioned Whiich looked like it had been off for awhile, cranked it up and it ran for about 5 min conked out and now wont run at all...lol figures!in my attempt to fix rough idle and muffled acceleration I have render inoperative!!!

Did you leave off the MAF sensor wire ? or any other connector.... although you should be able to leave it off & engine still runs. Check your gas tank!
Touch wood; I've never had that problem yet!

Its also possible that the MAF sensor was damaged when you tried to clean it. Try unplugging it to see if that doesn't help a little.
