5.4 Questions

I havent recived any responses on the Super Duty section so I will ask here

I have a 2000 S.D. 4x4 Standard cab with the 5.4 V8.
On the right side of the engin the studs are broken flush with the head on 3 out of 4 on the bottom of the exaust manifold. I talked to my mechanic and he said he would have to pull the heads and and tap new studs. The question I have is how much difference in power and would I see if i replaced the stock exaust manifolds with ceramic coated shorty headers and ran an H pipe and duel exaust. I found the headers on Summit for 426.00 but they did not list a h for my truck anyone know where I could find one?
if I had all this done would I feel a noticable diffrence in performance?

Thanks,
Jeff

Also he said 1800.00 to do the job is this a good price?>

Gibsons should fit, I have a 2002 5.4L f250 and am running them. The power pick up is minimal, they are all short tubes for our trucks and devolpe hp at high rpms.

Find another mechanic that will try to "EZ out" the broken bolts. It's a common problem Caprice/Impalas with the LT1 and the running cost broken manifold bolt extraction is under 1K.

As far as the broken studs. You may want to see another mechanic, or the dealer. If the studs are broken flush, they can be removed. If there's corrosion, it's at the very edge of the stud, and can usually be broken free with a good pick and a few taps of the hammer. There's ways to get them if they're broken inside the head too. My truck's not a SD, but I did this job myself for under $100. As far as the rest of the exhaust question, I haven't a clue, except custom stuff from the local muffler shop. Probly would sound real nice if you can get it done that way.

We'll find out later this week if my studs come out clean... I have several broken on both sides and plan on installing my Edelbrock headers during this next week. Odd thing is no leaks.

I would think that the stock exhaust manifolds on the SD's are the same shape as the F150s. After market headers for the F150s, such as the Gibsons fit, however there may be other fitment issues (EGR tube, steering...etc.) that may make other brands not work quite as well.
