We have tried to run a diagnostics on this 96 f 350 powerstroke that we just picked up but the scanner won't read. The scanner just comes up with an error. We are trying to get the code for the o/d light blinking. We have checked fuses and they are fine. The engine runs great and only has 67,000 miles on it. what are the steps i should take to find out what the problem is? Any help would be great. Thanks

 

most code readers wont work. you need ford specific (auto engenuity, ease, snapon, tuner)

Yep, scanner has to be for a diesel (most aren't)

Cleanup the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) sensor on the top of the rear differential.
IF that doesn't work get a new one, about IIRC $20 from the stealership.
