66 f100 parts truck

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Feb-02 AT 01:05 AM (EST)]I found a parts truck today- Two tone black and silver, 66 f100. The old man has had it since 68 and recently stopped driving it becasue the the engine and/or tranny went bad(He's now driving another 66 custom cab!).

He wants $150.00 for it.

It has some parts I need- good front fenders, rear bumper, headlight bezels, turn signal bezels, and a decent floor in the bed.

The only missing item on the truck on a cursory inspection was the front bumper, tailgate and radiator. The seat looks immaculate, but dont think it is original. The adjustor is chrome along with a chrome trim piece on the side lumbar all the way to the top- did they make a bench seat like this for the f100?

Do you guys think I would be out anything (Besides $150.00) since i need the above mentioned parts anyway? I am seriously considering but want other people's opinions.

I think the engine in truck is a 360 or 390 with a floor shift.

Let me know your ideas, suggestions and or opinions on this.

Thanks.

Robert, The bed alone would bring $5-600.00 at Carlisle Pa. I am gonna have to buy a radiator support and inner fenders for myself. Wish I was closer to you, but you are along way from NC. Buy it, you can get your money back by selling extra parts.

If you have a place to park it grab it. I paid 100 bucks for a decent seat. And if the core support is good that’s worth at least 100.00. William in Atlanta

Yeah, I thought about the prospect of selling extra parts, except I live in a real rural part of the world- South east Kansas- not many people looking for parts. The nearest town with more than 8,000 people is at least 30 minutes away- nothing between me and them except little towns.

I had already persuaded myself to buy it before I even finished the original post.

I will post parts on the classified when done with it

By the way, I am currently about 75% complete with the gas tank relocation. I thought i would be done by Febrary, but I am still working on it- the tank is installed, and the truck is running off the new tank. I am just doing a little adjusting and reparing with the bed off and am gojng to work on the filler neck and tube this next weekend. Hopefully be done soon!

I found a local in the town I teach at that rebuilds mustangs. He had a 16 gallon out of a 66 (he thought). I put in longways between the framerails above the spare tire. I had to remove and replace one crossmember and move another closer to the rear axle away from the back of the truck.

i am adding a fuel door from an early 80's ford and have not connected sending unit yet.

I am replacing my bed and working on that, so it might be a couple of weeks until completely finished.

Once I get the parts truck home I will give it the once over to find out for sure what I have that is good and/or bad and let you all know.

Any other questions, let me know.

R. Nolan

P.S. Where can I get tapered shock bushings? the local parts stores cant/wont locate them for me.

Nolan, Your location is not important. Access to rust free sheet metal is. Your area should have many old Fords with good fenders and core supports. Look around, maybe one of your students would like to make a few bucks by taking orders and shipping this stuff UPS? For example a rust free core support may bring as much as 300.00 to the right customer. A straight cab goes for $300.00 to $800.00. All this stuff can be shipped freight. I think I'll move to Arizona when I retire.

I would love to find a truck for $ 150 around here, I can always use more parts. Your bench seat does not sound original, there was no vertical chrome strip on the factory bench. There were 3 types of benches available as stock. The base vinyl bench, the base vinyl bench with optional (custom cab type) padding
(but NOT C.C. upholstery), and of course; the Custom Cab bench.
