I know it's kinda heresy, but I think some folks do things like that for the "uniqueness"...maybe also for the challenge of doing something that hasn't been tried much before.

There's a guy around here at a local car show with an old cxxxy p/u (early 30's?) that has a motorsport engine in it. I like it! Kind of cancels out at least one other brand in a Ford.
