Gary,
If you need him, try clicking his name and send him a PM.
As far as your problem, I have never heard of that before.
"manufacture controlled air fuel metering"
Whre did you get that? Is it from a code?
Is your check engine light on?
By chance is it leaking somewhere and not buring excessive fuel?
Need more info.......

Copied from PM sent to me:

Brian I get that message before I read the codes. Then it says o2 sensors but I changed them. Then it said egr system not ready, evap system not ready. What is the evap system? Need help killing me on gas I just bought the truck only had 78,000 miles when I bought it. I had the manifold gasket changed, idle air. Help if you can.
thank you Gary

Gary,
I'm baffled...Where do you get that message. Does it flash somewhere? Does it show up on the code reader and then the codes flash?
This is a new one for me.
Going on 7 years here and I've never heard of that.
The EVAP system is part of the emissions control system. It deals with the evaporative gases from the fuel tank/system.
The EGR is the Exhaust Gas Recirculation System. The 4.2 uses a DPFEGR system:
Differential
Pressure
Feedback
Exhaust
Gas
Recirculation
Did all this show up just after you had the gaskets replaced?
Did you have the gaskets replaced because of a failure or as a preventitive measure?
Why the IAC? A problem with it?
I'm guessing whatever is causing your problem is being interpreted by the OBD II as an O2 sensor problem, when in fact your fuel/air mixture is so far out of whack nothing is going to read correct.
I can't tell you what is wrong, 'cause I don't know. Sure wish I did!
I'd try disconnecting the battery and let the computer go dumb, (wait about 10 mins before reconnecting the battery). Start driving and see if the computer we re-learn things. Maybe it is just waaayy out of whack. But honestly, I can't see that being the case.
Is there ANYTHING you can tie directly to this problem first occuring?

I would look into a vacuum leak and possibly a dirty MAF. Try spraying the MAF filiments with electrical cleaner. Do Not Touch them, just spray them down good.
What exact codes are you getting?
The EVAP and EGR not ready usually means that the truck hasn't run long enough to reach operating temp and go into closed loop.
Post the actual codes and I can tell you more from that.
