Mechanical OP gauge install

Ok so I picked up a set of three gauges, a mechanic oil pressure and water temp and a voltmeter. Voltmeter is easy (duh), water temp is pretty easy (stock location). Oil pressure I was just going to go into the stock location on my '94 4.0L.

My questions: Will removing the stock idiot light hurt anything computer-wise, does it get any kinda signal or is the sender purely gauge only?

And B) do I need to wait 'til my next oil change to do this, will any oil spew out if I pull the sender when the truck is full of oil?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

On my 78 Merc 3.3L I installed a nipple & "T" where the idiot light sender came out of the block & then reused the idiot light sender on one end of the "T" & my electric oil pressure sender on the other end, so now I have two shin kickers, if something breaks bad!!!!! lol

Didn't loose a drop of oil when I did mine, it was high up on the block, not low down on the oil pan. So you should be ok, it's not going to drain the pan, as yours is up on the blck too.

I just put a set in my '82 LTD, and I also T'ed off the oil pressure. I am not sure if there is room on modern 4.0L to T off the oil pressure or not. Generally, you'll need an extention and put the T on the end of the extention.

I had no oil come out, but this was on 302. As long as the truck isn't running, I think you'll be fine.

I don't think the computer cares about the oil pressure reading, but I'd try to T it off to retain the stock gauge as well. I know on the '95+, the "Check Gage" light would be on constantly if you removed the oil pressure sender. You can unplug the wire on your current sender, start it up and see what happens.

I just T'ed off and kept my idiot light when I added my electric OP gauge. I have used mechanical gauges before with no problems, but the thought of an oil line to the inside of my truck led me to the electric. As I recall I had no spillage problems when I installed the mechanicals.
