Can you pull a 98 4.2 and a M5OD together?

Greetings from the <st1><st1>Motor</st1><st1> City</st1></st1>. My 98 f150 is doing the hydolock thing and I was wondering if you can pull the engine and trans as one unit. All I have is a regular engine hoist and some sturdy jack stands no fancy hoist. It looks like the trans is to long to make the necessary twist and turns.

Thank you in advance,

Jake

JAke,
Welcome to FTE!
Glad you found us.

I can't say for certain, but I don't think you can pull the motor/transmission as a single unit.

Are you planning to replace the motor or repair it?

If you just need to replace the lower intake manifold gaskets, you don't have to pull the engine.
Likewise the timing chain cover gaskets.
But you probably know that already.

I'll check my Haynes book to see if they mention specifics on pulling the engine.

Again, welcome to FTE!

hi, this will be of great interest to me . i ended up stripping the trans bolts and pulling the engine up and out, this was i tight fit with every thing removed. if you end up going this direction remember to tie the trans up for support as you may need to move the truck when lifting the engine.

After doing the research on FTE i decided to do a Ford reman and a new clutch pack. This is only my work truck which has almost 130,000 on it but I'm kinda takin a shine to it. The mileage is great and it comes in real handy most times.
