This sounds like an excellent mod especially if you live in the colder regions. Would it be wiser just to find the whole "unit" or do the "40$" AIC method? Is this the 1300 r's or 1100?

I only ever use the 1300 rpm setting on mine...if the PO didnt install the AIC, I would just go with the $40 high idle toggle switch...personally.

Yeah, if I didnt have my aux controle I would just make mine with a switch
