is there a difference?

i have a 1997 ford f-150 4x4 off road. is there a difference between a regular 4x4 and a 4x4 off road? just wondering because my truck appears to be stock and sits very high compared to other trucks ive seen.

If I'm correct the 4x4 off road came with 17" wheels and skid plates.

The skid plate package is an option as well. My truck has them, and I dont think it's the "off-road" package...

The "off-road" is a sticker. Everything on the off-road package is something that is optional on other trucks. My 97 4.6 4x4 offroad has the 17" rims, skid plates, shift on the fly 4x4. But it has an open differential. The offroad sticker is pretty much just a sticker. You could have my same truck but with a LS and no "off-road" sticker.

The off road package also included heavy duty shocks- Replaced the "heavy duty" shocks around 67k on my 01 as they had grown too soft.
