Throwout bearing

I've got a '65 F100 with a 240 hooked up to a Ford medium duty 3 speed transmission. I'm getting noise when I get past the free play in the clutch pedal. Is this most likely the throwout bearing? How involved is it to drop the tranny and get to the clutch? Would I be better off taking it to the local transmission shop? Any insight would be appreciated- Tom.

Tom it does sound like your throwout bearing is noisey. It is not a very complicated job. I don't know what your mechanical skill level is but it is a job a relative newcomer can handle. If your unsure of your skills get a service manual or recriut some experienced help. You might as well do the whole clutch job while your there and don't neglect to machine the flywheel too. Complete clutch kits are available with all the parts you need and usually include a clutch aligning tool. Good luck, Rich.

Thanks for the reply, Rich. I'll check my resto catalogs and see if I can find the clutch kits. If I get into it and have more questions I'll post again.- Tom

Just get your clutch from a good auto parts store no need to spend more money on resot parts that no one will ever see. Just get a name brand.
With a desent book and some time you can handle it.

Also, don't forget to replace the pilot bearing and check the input shaft bearing/oil seal while in there.
