i think the biggest problmes on changing out motors after 1990 is all the computer controls. fuel injectors, timing, shift point, electronic transmission, etc. How do you get the computer to talk to the new motor??????? this is not 1980. motor changouts are not that easy anymore.

The 4.0 and 4.2 are totally different engines and not even close to being interchangeable.

well if you had the same engine could you take it out of a 2wd and put it in a 4wd? Thinkin' about doin it to my truck

That would be a tough swap. Just as recerguy said I don't think that any components would be compatible, even your front suspension and drive shafts will likely need swapped.
