I own a 2003 F250 CC with a 5.4, its has alot of power, but not compared to the V10 or Powerstorke. What are you going to use the F250 for? For a daily driver and medium towinig and hauling, 5.4 is plenty enough of power, and will get the best gas mileage (if you call 13 to 16 MPG good ). V10 and Powerstroke will be better if you plan on doing alot of heavy hauling and towing. As of better gas mileage, there really isnt much you can do. Stay away from K&N air filters, they will make your gas mileage worse. Keep accelration RPM's below 2,000 RPM and speeds down. Its very hard I know...(The 5.4 sounds so sweet at 3000 rpm's )but this is the best way to keep your truck from eating you out of house and home.

I have records

I average 12.5 mpg in the city. The 5.4 has good torque though. I pull a 30' 5th wheel with the truck (~7700 lbs/88 ft^2 frontal area), and it does allright. I can keep it in OD here in the flat midwest (62 - 65 mph), but the truck still does well in the Eastern mountain ranges too.
PM me if you want to see my Excel file on my fuel consumption.

gas milage, the most i get is 11mpg, but i have 6 inch lift, heavy duty bumpers, tool box, and 35's , no wonder ha I get 11 mpg. O well over, still the best truck iI ever owned.

I have a 2000 f250 standard cab 4x4 with the 5.4 I pull a 23ft offshore boat about 6000 pounds and have no problems going 70mph down the interstate, The truck has had plenty of power for every task I have ever asked it to do. The only problems I have had with it are the speedo/Abs sensor went out had to replace it, had to do the ball joints at about 90,000 and just in the last few weeks I had the exaust manifold studs break on the right manifold, I am told this is a common problem in these trucks because the Ac water drips onto the manifold constantly. But I am going to replace the stock manifolds with ceramic coted headers in the next week. I give this truck a 10 out of 10 in reliabilty.

fuel mileage 14 mpg no load
11 mpg pulling the Boat

I have the stock 235/75/r15 tires on it I have a set of 305/70/r15 that are going on it soon as the other work is done.

i have a 2006 f250 SC 8ft bed...now this 5.4 is the 3v and it is rated at 300hp and 365 lbs/ft...i dont do any towing but i believe that if i ever do it will do just fine...i get about 12.5-13 mpg around town and im not sure on the highway...you wont be disapointed...good luck and keep us posted...o yeah the only thing i think i will change is maybe a superchip but definatley im going to go 4.10 gears rather than my 3.73 i have now...it just seems sluggish up hills and off the start and from what i hear that will help alot!!!

The V stands for valves. The 2v has 2 valves per cylinder and the 3v has 3. The 3v has a little more power and better low end grunt which is what you need in a truck anyways.
