hood emblems

Did Ford make more then one hood emblem for the 64' F-100? I just went looking through the online store at the emblems. It has the gear and lightning bolt style emblem. My truck has the V8 emblem. Why? Was it because my truck had the 292 in it originally? Speaking of the emblems has anyone had theirs rechromed? How much did it run you? Mine has two pit marks in it and the crhome has a swirling crack on the top right side of it. Nothing you can see from more then 5 feet away though.

Mark the V8 emblem was first introduced in 65 with the 352, why you have one on your truck is anyones guess.

hood emblems

Good topic and one thats had me pulling my hair out for years...On my 65 3/4 ton CS, I positively remember there being the gear and lightening bolt sewn in the upper center of the vinyl of the seat back. I have heard the gear/lightening bolt was for 6's,F100, but what gets me is if indeed the V8 is correct for my beast, then whats with the seat monogram??? This is a totally stock unmolested truck and I would love to know if mine is to have the V8 up front or the other....this is a 352 truck mind you....also a paint code CM, anyone else out there heard/seen this???

Thanks for the input

Maybe the previous owner saw it and liked it or I have a hood from a 65. Who knows. I like the look of it though. I am still torn about the FORD leters and side emblems. I like the clean look. Well only time and bank account can say for sure.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Apr-02 AT 06:12 AM (EST)]Mark, don't even fool with getting them chromed. You can buy great looking repro's (made from OEM dies) from several vendors now. Try Motorhaven. Both emblems run around $60. Good luck, Phil

That's what I figured. I just didn't want to see anybody spend good money on a rechrome when new ones are so cheap. I've been burned a couple of times on stuff I shouldn't have had done. Later

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Apr-02 AT 03:42 PM (EST)]A correct 1961 - 1964 hood had 3 emblems. The '64 had the front lightning bolt and gear no matter what engine it had. The side die cast emblems and inserts were mounted on the hood sides. If your truck has the side chrome trim, it ran right thru the same area as these emblems. The emblems, (now slightly different) were lowered down to the fender for 65 and 66. If your '64 hood has the side nameplates, or holes where they once were, it is from a '64. The front emblem with the V8 was used in 65 and 66.

65camperspecial I looked on the color chart for the trucks and in 65 C was pure white. M is the code for wimbelton white. So not sure unless yours had a two tone white scheme or wimbleton white interior.

CB's, thanks for the info...it is an original tutone white beast, according to the Red Book of Ford trucks, it shows the color names to be Wimboldon and Corintian white. I have never seen another tutone white truck anywhere in the 61-6 run. From what I have learned over the course of time, it seems I have a top end truck...for 65 that is, but it was a radio delete originally....wasnt that part of some pkg???
Anyone know when the Camper Sp. pkg was introduced????

Thanks

I heard the "gear" was for engineering and the "lightening" bolt was for speed.

Your hood could have been changed or just the emblem itself, but either way the V8 is not right for a 1961-64. The 61-64 had the ring gear & lightening bolt whether it was an 8 or 6 cylinder. The V8 was only used on 65-66. The reason being was that 61-64 8 cylinder engines were nt V blocks, but 292 Y blocks and the V block didn't come into focus until 65 with the 352 V8.

Hey smiley, WELCOME to FTE!!
Guys smiley has two beautiful customised trucks, a 64 and a 56. He has more knowlege about our trucks in his little finger than I have in my head. He will be a great asset to our forum.
