Tire size and rear end gear change.HELP?
I have a '00 F150 4x2 with a 4.2 V6 manual tranny. I want to put the biggest tire size on it I can. I know it's not a 4x4, but I want it to kinda look like one. I plan on putting a 3 inch body lift on sometime in the future, but it's bone stock right now except for the 17 inch wheels I got off a '02 4x4. What is the biggest tire size I can put on my 17's? I also have loss of power because of the tire size and I'm thinking of lowering the gears in the rear end to compensate. What do I have now? and what should I lower it to? How hard is it to change them? I know it's alot of questions, but any help would be GREATLY appreciated. THANKS!

Unless your a mechanic. you should not change the gears by yourself.
To tell what what gears you----There is a tag on the rear differential cover. look at it and see what it says. It should have some numbers like 3 55 or something like that.
If your truck has a nose dive appearance you might could either buy spindle lifts or taller front spring.(not too sure on the springs though) then add a block on the rear or add a leaf. to level it out.
NOt sure on the gears. maybe 4:10 , 4:30 , or 4:56. depending on what size of tire you go with.
