66 F-100 rewire

Hi, I'm in the process of installing a new painless wiring harness in my truck, but i was a little hasty about ripping out the old wires. now i'm stumped about which new wires go where at my ignition and my headlight switch. I have about six well labeled new wires that i need to connect to three unidentified existing wires at my ignition (where the key goes under the dash) same with the light switch at the dash. six labeled new wires to be connected to 8 prongs. Too late to trace any old wires. Is there a way to find out what goes where? Can I safely try different combinations until it works? Should i get a new ignition and light switch? any help would be much appreciated.

My suggestion would be order a wiring diagram from this site... Best $6.00 you'll ever spend
