Angry daily driver turned parts car?

Ok guys, listen, i am a poor man in the country, and i know this is a TRUCK forum, but I just bought a 1990 mustang with a 2.3 and i just cant seem to get it to run right, when i turn the car over it starts to sputter and run, but dies after a couple chugs, in order to keep it running i have to press the pedal to the floor and it just barely stays running, now we can hear the rear pump, and we changed the filter, but to no avail, it wont run right, I dont have a code checker thingy, want one, but dont got one. If i cant get it to run im planning on using it for parts, and i wanna take the tranny out and put it in my 2.9 bronco 2 and im pretty sure itll line up, but i just wanted to verify, well this is the second time in the last three months i bought a cheapo ford that i liked, and it turned into a money hole, please help!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks guys.

Hi and Welcome to FTE! Please take a moment to check out the Guidelines as they contain important info that you'll need when posting on the site:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/guidelines.html

We don't discriminate here...the 2.3 used in that 'Stang is the same one used in our trucks. And besides, you have a BII so you're in!

First of all, you don't have to have a code scanner to check the codes yourself. Sure, it makes it a bit easier but you can still do without it. Here's how:

http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=13

The other thing to check is fuel pressure. You check it at the Schrader valve on the fuel rail. It should be in the range of 35-45psi.

It's most likely something pretty simple, but you can drop the plan of putting the tranny behind your 2.9, it won't fit. The bolt pattern looks similar but it's just different enough not to work, and besides, the starters are on opposite sides and the transmission input shaft for the V6 is longer.

Is that a 4X2 BII you have?

Is your trans a 5 speed? If so depending on where your located I might be interested in asking a few questions.

Thanks,

Unhappy answers

Well guys, ive come to the conclusion, that this car is now parts for my other mustang, the problem isnt the fuel, its that the motor is blown, water in the oil, and just dont care to work on the insides of the motor, well my b2 is a two wheel drive, unfourtunately, now that im out of trannys im stuck on this one again, with no vehicle, and 300 dollars further in the hole. Ive been told that my synchronizer has fallen apart, so i guess that tranny is done. im located in the panhandle of florida, if thats enough info. well good news in this for my dad though, we traded away the only chevy on the land that was up on blocks, and $200 away for a custom 1977 Ford F100 with a 302, minor problems, like a leak in the valve cover gaskets, and a bad exhaust donuts, to me that was better than a camaro with a bad tranny and no title.
