1999 Transmission Jerk and Engine Skip

This is a 1999 F150 with 190000 miles on truck and 120000 miles on engine.

1. I have a 1999 F150 automatic that has a a minor rough (jerk) transition from 1st to 2nd gear but is smooth otherwise. Is there anything simple to do with this other than take to a transmission shop. I have changed the fluid twice in the past and just recently after 50000 miles it looked good and only very minor material on magnet?

2. The engine skips from time to time (several times at once) and then does fine for days. It can do this at any speed or any time. I am in the process of changing plugs and plug wires. Anything else simple I should try.

3. Should I bother with chasing the above or give in to something newer?

Thanks for your help

Thanks. The only previous work I have done on the transmission is removing the pan and replacing the fluid. Are you sure this is something I could do? I do have the Haynes manual but not alot on the auto trans in there though I have not been through it yet. Thanks again.

What about that Engine skipping? I've never seen an answer to that one!

yes im sure u can do it , ijust done it a month ago ,$30 parts , the haynes manual wont tell u **** about a transmission , pull the pan , look up front ,drivers side , ull see a retainer ring bout the size of a silver dollar, pull that ull have bottom spring , piston , top spring , by the way u need to order the piston to ,$24, it has seals made on it,one is probly broke . spring $5.80,piston $24.99. as far as ur motor skipping , id start with the plug wires.
