A question that i cant get answered.

I have a 73 bronco, not a sport, and I dont think its a ranger, nothing special that I can tell. I am second owner of this truck. It was a tow vehicle for most of its life. It has a 302, 3 speed, all the basic stuff. Anyway, I was checking the vin, and all of the codes on the glove box and this is what I the found. Under the model, It reads U153. Under the body, it reads 34. Can anyone tell me what this means. I have read every piece of information that I can find and it cant tell me what this means. I have the big axles, and the the hd package i think. I called Jeff's, and they said they didnt know. They recommended that I get a copy of my build sheet from ford. Can anyone help me out here?

A U153 designation stands for a wagon model with 4450 lb GVW. It is not the HD package, but it is a step above the standard 4300 lb GVW Bronco. It should have a big bearing rear axle but with 10x2.5" brakes.

I haven't found much information about body code designations. My 69 has a 4 digit body code 9U98. I found nothing for your 34.

What was the reasoning behind making a vehicle with a gvw difference of 150 lbs?

Don't know if this helps but I have a 76 Ford truck chassis manual and it states the body should have 3 digits. Anyway if #34 is your first two digits, #3 comes out to a tan interior and #4 is L-S #675. I don't know what that means but I think it means low back style seats which is typical for Broncos. Sorry not much help.

b/c it is the wagon model it sports a rear seat. if you were to stick 4 full size adults (ya i doubt it too) then you are gettin close to the max weight rating! also the wagon model offers the opprotunity (like a camper shell) to keep a lot of stuff in the cab and out of sticky hands or nasty weather.

just a thought
