Browsing around

I recently acquired a 97 and was looking on the forum and those guys made the rankest newbie here seem like a rocket scientist. Maybe they spent too much time with their playstation and melted their minds.

Yea, I got a 98 awhile back and cruised around that forum a few times. It just doesn't seem as friendly over there. It's the same on the Y-block page. Maybe it's just because we're accustomed to the characters here...or it's quite possible that this little forum is populated by the best people on the web!

You think that one is bad, take a look at the Superduty and 6.0 diesel forums. Those folks can get a bit mean-spirited but at least many of them seem to know the trucks pretty well.

seems to me most of the more modern forum users are only people with a quick question, and they move on. Not truck rebuilders/restorers/mechanics/etc... And so they don't get much info from others on the same forum either, since they're mostly all just asking questions and not providing answers. Even in the 80-86 forum, I've gotten no answers to some basic tcase knowledge questions, However, there are a couple good people on there for engine/efi, and electrical problems. My 2 cents.

I had a similar experience on the 335 (Cleveland) forum. I asked questions a couple of times and got no response.

Maybe my deoderant failed.

The worst I've found are the "wide open" forums, like Road & Track, Car & Driver, etc. A bunch of punk teenagers who don't know how to install a battery but want to add 50 HP with a magic bolt-on. (After they install a killer stereo and neon under-lights, of course). Rude responses, name-calling, and stupidity on a scale that makes you want to leave the country before these cretins get old enough to vote........

You've just described about 95% of the forums and chat rooms on the net, and even here, we have to deal with 4tl8ford!

Ahh Shucks, More recognition. You Guys are going to give me a swelled head.

When I first came on the Forum I spent a lot of time on the 335 and Y-Block boards, it had been awhile since I had worked on them. At the time both places spent more time peeing in each others boots then trying to answer questions, reminds me of me and the Col.
I then went to the now defunked open Forum where my natural wit and humor was far less appreciated then it is here, but it did cause some good Ol' slap fights.

Now I've settled in here, just like the Brother-In Law that everyone loves so much. Home at last.

Red face

You gents sound like the crowd I need to worm my way into. Courteous help with a little fun. I'm new to the game and currently just trying to get a clue. I recently aquired my grandfather's '53 and want to eventually bring her back. I'll be keeping an eye out for you guys and try not to be too much of a nuissance.

Well then....you won't be much fun at all!!!

Please remember to ask lots of silly or simple questions. It's the best chance that some of us will have to look smart.

Welcome to FTE
