po705/708 obd codes

Those three codes all relate to the Digital TR (Transmission Range) sensor. The TR sensor is mounted on the side of the transmission and tells the computer what the position of the shift lever is. These codes are posted when the PCM detects an illogical output of the TR sensor.
Possible causes are a faulty connection at either the TR sensor or the PCM, an open or short circuit in the wiring harness, a faulty PCM, or a faulty TR sensor. There is a specific diagnostic procedure in the factory service manual to diagnose and pinpoint the cause of the fault to prevent unnecessary parts replacement. The diagnostic procedure requires the use of a scan tool that can read individual PIDs (Mode 6 data) from the PCM.
Lacking such a tool, I'd suggest removing the connector from the TR sensor, inspect, and clean it to see if an intermittent connection might be at fault. Reset the PCM then retest.

the truck still shifts hard, tempreture hangs in around 125-130 appears to be working good.I notice though i have to giggle the shifter around abit to start it, i started to get ready to ajust the sensor last night and followed the process, the reverse lights come on in reverse but not every time i checked it though, i starts in park and nutral and not sure if the sensor should be changed, the od button flashes off and on when i start to drive..
Thanx for the info

I am having the same problem with my 99 F150 with only 70k miles, I changed the TR sensor, did exactly what I was told as far as installing it and yet it still makes the ODL blink and the engine light stays on. The code it shows is P0705 everytime after I have reset it a million times already. I have checked all the wiring and its all good. The manual says there is a special tool that is needed to align it correctly but the parts stores have no clue as to what I am talking about. And of course the dealer wont tell you anything since they want your money! I also know that this part runs off voltage so I have put a new battery and new starter on since they both seem to have quit at the same time. Now I am so confused as to what else I can do to fix my truck. I am at the point to just sell it just to get one I dont have to work on. I really need any ideas as to exactly how to install this part and make it work properly. Anyone PLEASE help!

it's been awhile since i logged in, hope you have sorted out the problem. I haven't i added a heat senor to the tranny pan just to monitor things for now it a safe way to make sure i don't burn out the trans. i have been told by a ford mechanic that it is the tr sensor i have a new one and will but it on this weekend and also check the voltage becuase it too may have an effect on the problem i'll let you know how i make out and we'll seen where we go from there, ford prts also played dumb about the special tool but we can improvise and get by without it.

Thanks for the reply. I already put a new TR sensor on about 3 weeks ago, I have took it off and readjusted and realigned until I am ready to sell this truck. Even after redoing it, it still makes the ODL blink and the engine light stay on. When I drive it the RPM hand flucuates a bit. Its aggrevating that this one small part is giving me so much trouble. I am not sure if I bought a bad part from Ford or maybe I need the wiring redone. It's a mystery to me. But keep me updated on how you make out on yours. If it works tell me exactly what you did, step by step please, so I can try what you did.

A Ford parts department person would not have a single clue as to what special tool is required. That's the province of the technician/mechanic. The alignment tool is likely part of a complete set that cost the dealership several thousand dollars to purchase, if they even bought one.
If you can get the starter to engage with the gearshift lever in both P and N positions and the backup lights come in while in R, the TR sensor is probably within adjustment.
As I posted almost 4 months ago, a proper scan tool is a good idea to properly test this fault code. If you keep dinking around, you'll probably just get more and more frustrated.

Thanks Steve! It will start in P & N only & the backup lights do come on. So I guess I will take your advice and spend that extra money to get the dealer to take a look at it. They seem to be the only ones that can properly diagnos what is the problem. I am way beyond frustrated. No offense to Ford owners but I think this will be my last Ford ever.... I've had my share of problems with this one and all in a 2 month period.
