True Duals

Anyone running true duals on their 85 351W? What diameter pipes are you running? Is there much of a horsepower difference between true duals and a cat back exhaust? Thanks for all replies and opinions

True duals with a X or H pipe will help in the HP & TQ dept in a big way even more so with headers,I wouldn't go bigger than 2 1/2 in system with a stock or fairly stock engine. Do you know where your gas tank is located? If it's a side tank make sure you route it far enough away from your tank.

Hey Rebel, I actually have dual tanks, side mount and then a rear mounted. I guess I'll go with true duals...never had'em on a vehicle before.

I have dual tanks too.I found that LMC has a 38 Gallon tank that can replace the rear 19 gallon tank so I can get rid of my side tank and have my new exhaust to exit on the sides in front of the tires.

I installed true duals on my '83 with dual tanks when I installed my headers. My exhaust man used 2 1/4" pipes, new cats, and glasspak mufflers. The pipes run down the opposite side of the truck from the tanks. I've noticed no difference in HP but did notice a slight improvement in gas mileage. The exhaust goes out under the back bumper thru some really nice chrome tips. It looks, and sounds great, as I have been told at traffic lights...

Glad to tell you. Mason Muffler on Haywood Rd. You gotta get an appointment, but he will give you a good idea what it will cost up front. If you are doing headers, you gotta install that stuff. He does the pipes and back. Bends everything himself. Done all my work all my adult life.

My own opinion, but I hate teh sound of glasspacks.
I have the side tank on my F100. So I was not able to go dual out in fron of the rear tires. So I did it behind.
THe guy that did my system ran dual to a dual in dual out Flowmaster 70 series. Not too loud, but it has one nice agressive sound to it.
Also did mine with 2 a 1/2 inch. Although I am building mine up.

Going to be a 408 in a few weeks running arounf 400hp, and the smae or more in the torque department if it works out well.

If you are running true dual I would recomend an X or H pipe. They will even out the pulses from each bank and improve torque, along with sound.

And with the 4 bbl, and dual expect a good gain. It really opend up my 351w. Be careful with the new found power. lol

If you're going to run glass packs, get the longest ones you can. The short ones have a nasty tone to them... IMO. My cousin put 45" long glass packs on his 67 Chevelle and it sounds like an old big block corvette with factory side pipes.

One of these days I'm going to put one on my truck. I used to have the short one and it sounded like crap...

Also Summit sells a header dual kit that runs both pipes down the passenger side, then splits out the back. (http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku)

Also hooker makes a header and also a manifold dual pipe-kit.
