Hey everyone -
I recently bought a 1999 Explorer with 103,000 miles on it, and I wanted to ditch the paper filter and get a K&N - does anyone know if I can use a 1998 Explorer "cone" filter on my 1999? Or, would "any" 5.0L cone K&N filter work on my 1999 5.0L? (K&N doesnt list a cone filter for 1999....) Also, is there anything else I should be checking out right away that may need to be replaced on these Explorers? Fuel filter, tranny fluid, diff. fluid, bearings, etc...? Only had an oil change/air filter so far.

My 1999 Eddie Bauer 5.0 Explorer has a Square Filter... around $50 at AutoZone for a K&N. I just replaced mine. I only have 30,000 miles on my Explorer... I would recommend changing "All" the fluids. I recommend "AMSOIL Products" . It will make a world of difference in your performance and MPG, as I have heard this over and over again.
