300 to 390 swap, trans question
Allright, I'm looking to put a 390 in front of an NP 435 that was attached to a 300-6. I have the 390 bellhousing and clutch assembly, so I have everything to hook it all together.
Question is this:
I hear that there is a difference in the length of the input shaft between tranny's that came behind FE's and the trannys that came behind everything else. Is there a significant difference or does the bellhousing make up the difference?

My understanding is that the difference is in the bellhousing, that is why the truck housing , if I recall correctly, is a little deeper than the car bell housings (car trans vs truck trans). I do not believe the trannys had different length shafts, that would considerably limit their applications...
